It is most likely Vikings came up the Aire from the East Coast. Wetherby Grange to the South East of the town was previously called Beilby Grange, and before that Micklethwaite Grange. It is mentioned in the history of Kirstall Abbey There are modern housing developments on streets such as Micklethwaite Grove and Micklethwaite View just to the south of the river at Wetherby. There is also a Micklethwaite Grange in the Bingley Micklethwaite.
